Inspired by an old character, a man almost legendary DoctorFaustus, Goethe has created one of the masterpieces of Western literature, one of the strangest books that met modern literature, mixing Gothic fantasies with the primacy of science. It tells the storyof a scholar, Faust, torn between good and evil. He sells his soul to the devil, Mephistopheles, to acquire wealth, wisdom, and favors the young Margaret.

A Thin Ghost and Others - M. R. James

 M. R. James' third  collection of ghost stories, with five short stories: "The Residence at Whitminster," "The Diary of Mr. Poynter," "The Episode of Cathedral History," "The Story of a Disappearance and an appearance," and "Two Doctors." About this volume, the author wrote: "I have had my doubts about the wisdom of publishing a third set of tales; sequels are, not only proverbially but actually, very hazardous things. However, the tales make no pretence but to amuse, and my friends have not seldom asked for the publication. So not a great deal is risked, perhaps, and perhaps also some one's Christmas may be the cheerfuller for a storybook which, I think, only once mentions the war."

The Phantom Rickshaw and Other Tales - Rudyard Kipling

The Phantom Rickshaw & Other Eerie Tales brings together four of Kipling's most-loved short stories. Each deals with events that can't quite be explained away, whether a traditional ghost story, a terrifyingly realistic nightmare or an sumptuous and lavish romance. Powerful, exotic and extravagant, these tales are rated, by some, to be the best stories Kipling ever wrote, with 'The Man Who Would Be King' being hailed as the finest story in the English language.
